After the great success of our competitions with Bosch in 2011 and Corticeira Amorim during the summer of 2012, we are happy to announce another competition:

A new event pavilion for the Department of the Charente

The Charente is a Department of France, situated in the South West of the country with Angoulême as its capital. The government of the Department asked C.I.R.E.C.A. Domaine de Boisbuchet to create its new event pavilion.

Therefore we want to organize an international competition with participation by our designers, architects and alumni. The focus of the competition is to develop a concept with the aim of building a prototype.

The pavilion should be available in full-scale and in the finished structure to be delivered to the Department on April 30th, 2013.

Objective

To have a pavilion, which facilitates the exchange and communication.

To have a space in which you easily can develop exhibitions and events.

A space that arouses curiosity and that is favorable for promoting the Department of the Charente. A round and modest pavilion without any pillars inside and daylight from the roof, windows or a light bar between the walls and the roof is preferred.

Requirements

• A structure that is easy and quick to assemble – by no more than 3 people at the same time (not professionals, but male and female employees of the Administration) and requiring no more than 3 hours of installation (this being the time used by three people to mount the current pavilion, please find more information about the current pavilion attached).

• A structure that is easy to mount and dismantle, to store and transport.

The weight of a single piece should not be more than 30 kg.

No elements that cannot fit into their vehicle (see attached technical information sheets) If possible with transport packaging to reduce wear.

• If possible, using recycled or natural materials (plywood panels, cork panels, felt or fabric - upholstered and with a waterproofed exterior surface), knowing that the structure has to withstand rain, wind, cold and heat.

• For maintenance, it should be possible to dry elements of the structure after use, also to clean these from one season to the next.

• Accommodation for up to 30 people at the time.

• A space that is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

• Provision of hanging systems for exhibitions.

• Provision of lighting (day and night) the energy will be delivered by electric cable from outside.

• Floor: No floor required because the ground or installation site is very variable.

• Considering safety aspects on materials (e.g. mind flammable materials), construction and maintenance.

• the budget for the entire project , material and labor has to be a low cost one.
